Artist's Comments

In the early 15th century, an evil man by the name of Sir Thomas Vaughn lived in the lovely Hergest Court with his faithful black bloodhound. The man and his beast terrorized the townspeople for years until Sir Vaughn's death in 1469. At the moment of his death, the great hound howled in mourning. To this day, the ghost of the bloodhound stalks the grounds of Hergest Court, and the townspeople won't dare go near it....especially after dark.

This occurrence was the bases for Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's story "The Hound of the Baskervilles"

Note: You will notice the beast in the painting is NOT a bloodhound....to those anal-retentive people who may criticize this, I say have you ever seen a bloodhound look ferocious or threatening?
